pangguofang is the son of a Chinese farmer who grew up in the 1940s and 1950s. He became the first student in the village to enter a middle school (equivalent to a high school in the United States), and had not even seen an electric light before. More than 50 years later, he presided over the research of a series of detection technologies, so that China's honey, chicken and brown rice were recognized in the international market. At the same time, he successfully organized three AOAC collaborative studies, and the three technologies were developed into AOAC public methods. pangguofang's life is not a smooth road. His extraordinary career began with hard work, his mother's life teaching, and he admitted that he was once one of the students with the worst grades

at the age of 11, he just finished the fourth grade of primary school. At that time, he was divided into elementary school and high primary school in China. He said through an interpreter that the school will publish the examination results of all grade students from high to low in the wall newspaper column, and the last one will also be marked with a big red hook drawn with a brush. He said: the students jokingly called it "carrying the Red List"

that year, on the day of the announcement of the list, he found that he had "carried the Red List". "I feel my face is hot, my heart is pounding, and I sweat a lot. This is the first time in my life that I know what shyness is.". Although his score was at the bottom, he was allowed to be promoted to high school. He said, "I'm still lucky."

after he was promoted to high school, a teacher named Gao Fengxing began to teach him. His hands were too cold to hold the chalk, so he had to take turns writing with another classmate. His hand was frostbitten twice, but he was like a good one and never delayed

at the same time, when he graduated from junior high school in 1961, one of his compositions was selected as the best composition in nine graduating classes (about 500 people). A poem he wrote was also published in a local magazine. He said: at that time, my classmates gave me a nickname "little writer", and I also dreamed of becoming a writer one day

but when he graduated from high school in 1963, his brother, who was ten years older than him (as a manager in a chemical plant), persuaded him to reconsider whether to study science and engineering. At that time, Pang had never seen a chemical plant and had little chance to do chemical experiments, but he finally accepted his brother's advice. He said: I filled in the "chemistry department" in my application for college entrance examination

it was by no means easy to go to college at that time. In 1963, pangguofang graduated from four classes with 200 students, and only 16 of them were admitted to the University. At that time, a teaching director and a physical education teacher of the school rode a 20 kilometer bike and personally sent the admission notice to his home. Pang said, "our whole family is extremely happy.". He became the second college student in the history of the village

pangguofang was admitted to Hebei University, which was located in Tianjin, the third largest city in China at that time. Going to Tianjin itself is an unusual journey: first, walk 4 kilometers, then take a two-hour bus, and finally get on the train for the first time and drive to "a world full of novelty", which is the academic home of most of his life

the novel world began with a visit to a synthetic fiber factory. The budding chemist watched the nylon filament (a Chinese synthetic fiber) sprayed from the nozzle. Pangguofang said, "in the past, I only knew that the clothes we wore were all home grown cotton. My mother spun cotton into cloth and then made clothes. In 1964, he also got an opportunity to visit the local import and Export Commodity Inspection Bureau after temperature changes. The person who took them to visit was a professor of chemical analysis. Pangguofang was told that the inspection report had his signature, which was recognized by foreign merchants. He said, "I immediately felt awed at hearing this, and felt that the chemistry we learned was too sacred and useful."

He said, "for example, hairy crabs in China were rejected abroad because of excessive arsenic.". Therefore, he decided to choose this question as the topic of his graduation thesis. When designing the project for students, he did not choose the general atomic absorption technology and ultraviolet spectroscopy technology, but chose a new micro coulometric titration technology developed under his auspices, which made a new breakthrough in students' graduation thesis and also highlighted Pang's personal understanding of "teaching and learning grow together"

pangguofang noticed that teachers can't predict the final results of students' research, and some designs sometimes go well and sometimes don't. He said, "if the project is not carried out smoothly, students often ask a series of questions about the teacher's project design. He said that we must have an open mind to these problems of students, rather than defending the original design everywhere. In 1982, pangguofang left the university where he had studied and worked for 20 years and was dispatched to Qinhuangdao entry exit inspection and Quarantine Bureau.
